Link Building via CommentLuv and Top Commenter
There are two great ways to build links while providing comments on blogs. One is called CommentLuv and the other is Top Commenter. As you will notice, I have added both to my blog to encourage thoughtful blog posts.
CommentLuv, which is a Wordpress and Drupal plugin that allows you to comment and then have your most recent blog post or RSS feed post to be included at the bottom of your comment. To have this work, just type in your URL into the appropriate URL or URI field. Once the comment is accepted then you would see a link.
This works very well for any web page, blog, and other sites, such as Squidoo.
The other is a Widget for Wordpress blogs that is called Top Commenter. It allows the blogger to display the most prolific commenters on the blog, over a period of time, often a month. In the case of my blog, Top Commenter is only on the front page, so the link value is not diluted throughout the site.
Both can be set by the blogger to be dofollow (meaning your link will include the linkjuice from the search engines), which includes this blog as well.
How to Find Commentluv and Top Commenter Blogs
There are various linkbuilding programs out there, free and otherwise:
- Fast Blog Finder *Recommended
- Real Link Finder
- Comment Kahuna
- Traffic Kahuna (same author as above)
In addition there are great online search tools and listings:
- Do Follow Diver – Allows you search through a listing of more than 700 dofollow blogs, including many with Top Commenter and CommentLuv.
- A list of over 100 blogs using CommentLuv.
- The official CommentLuv active sites list.
Don’t Spam!
The important thing here is to not abuse these sites. Spamming hurts everyone and if a blogger finds too many spammers coming from a certain region of the world easily can block an entire IP range. Also, both of these widgets/plugins allow the blogger to block certain people automatically.
In addition, the spam-blocking plugging known as Akismet and the process of manually authorizing each blog post will eliminate any post deemed as spam. The important part when posting on blogs using either or both is realizing that its simply not worth taking the time to spam, as your comments will assuredly not be allowed.

CommentLuv is indeed a nice way to express our appreciation to the people who visited and shared their insights on our post. It is just sad that there are growing numbers of people here in the internet that was not thoughtful enough when leaving their comments. I can’t understand why these people like writing useless words that have nothing to do with the topic.
Make sure you have the latest version of WordPress and CommentLuv and it should work just fine for your blog.

Excellent tips and resources for general marketing there more than anything. Probably the best form of link building, not sure about top commenter but commentluv is the way to go imo.
There are also many new plug ins coming out so you can now use much more than just comment luv
Blog commenting is also a better option on link building as long as you are doing it legally and professionally.

When people comment on you blog, it mean your blog have more fresh content and Google love that. Moreover, comment on other blog will help us make more friends and it helps improve our business.

The problem with CommentLuv is that you have to moderate tonnes of comments or have strong spam-filtering mechanism

What’s worrying me is the fact that so many bloggers revert back to nofollow because of comment spam. Even though I have Askimet, I don’t want to sit for hours on end searching through spam comments for fear of Askimet mistaking a useful comment for spam.

I think CommentLuv is a great way to help build links to your blog. It gives you a more meaningful link that a normal blog does since the anchor text is way more relevant.

As mentioned in the post, Fast Blog Finder is a really useful tool that allows you to find blogs with do follow. I have used it for some time now, and it helps to find blogs who are relevant to your site. The only problem is that if you are serious you have to pay for it, because the trial version only allows you to find 50 blogs on every search, which amounts to about 2-5 blogs with do follow…

As any new site, I need links in and out. My concern is when I am linking out, do I need to be concerned with folks who use rel=”nofollow”. And will that really help them to get credit for the out link, but does not delute thier pagerank?

I have this impression that bloggers like you who have this link loving plugins like CommentLuv are really nice people because they exert effort to give back to their blog visitors by showing their latest blog post. They can really be called hospitable people
I think commenting is a great to interact with other bloggers, and build backlinks. If someone is actually taking the time out to read the post, then comment, then there shouldn’t be a problem.
Comment Luv is a good tool and it should be used in a proper way, not for Spamming.

Excellent work here. I have recently set up my own blog and would like to build quality links as fast as possible. However I would never see spamming as an option. If people use pages like this one properly and don’t take the mick then everyone can benifit from them.

I am new to the blog commenting realm. I have always read blogs to find useful information but have recently started leaving comments to build up my linking campiaign. I only leave quality comments on the topic of the blog and I believe what I add to the discussion is useful. However, I have noticed that most of my comments never show up. I wish someone would go into detail about what spamming a blog is. Maybe, I am doing something wrong. I think knowing the rules could be benificial to a lot of people.

Your point is well-made regarding the abuse of do-follow sites. It really should not be that difficult to offer a thoughtful comment for a do-follow link. Unfortunately many people abuse the webmaster’s generosity, however if everyone makes an effort, we can make a difference. Also, webmasters should not be reluctant in deleting a useless comment either!

I’ve enabled CommentLuv, DoFollow and Top Commentators on my blog with great results. It increases the site discussion turn-over, and allows users to be rewarded for their great comments.
As you mentioned though – it’s important not to abuse these “gifts,” as you want every comment to be thoughtful AND useful to the community.
I’ve used Comment Luv before and I’ve found it very useful. Unfortunately, many bloggers and commenters alike adopt policies and float a lot of junk that does nobody any good.

There are some great points and tricks on this blog. Not sure about the Squidoo lens as a money maker, seems like you have to write about real mainstream items to get any major traffic.

CommentLuv is certainly helpful and there is a useful search that can be used to identify blogs that use this handy plugin.
Do Follow Diver is worthless in my opinion. The vast majority of blogs are either defunct or no-follow now.
Finally, I’ve used Comment Kahuna in the past (not recently) and I found that the amount of work necessary to filter through the “no-follows” seldom prove productive.
Just my thoughts…
Commentluv is a great plugin. I’ve already installed it. It is a nice way to say thanx to the regular commentator of our blog.

CommentLuv is a good plugin. But, I don’t know whether it increases the spam further. Recently, I made my blog “DoFollow”. May be, after some time I’ll check the quantity of spam and if it is manageable, I can consider adding CommentLuv.

I thought you may mention that you can always look by custom footprints as well. Usually Commentluv sites will have a .gif or even text containing “commentluv” so you can always use Google to find related-relevant CLuvin’ sites!

The No Follow feature of blogs was, as we all know, put in there to discourage spam.
Instead it discouraged one blogger helping another out with link building.
Now, there is a move on to reverse the trend and to make the entire feeling of blogging friendlier.

The site that I’ve listed, for example, is a Do Follow. All non-spam comments are allowed.
So, if you go to ToysPeriod, do it right as this blogger suggests. Read the articles thoroughly and be rewarded with a great backlink.
I think blog commenter should respect the policies of the blogger. Everyone needs backlinks & commenting on others blog can give advantage to both blogger & commenter, But one spam comment can ruin the other comments on that article. Plugins like Askimet are good to avoid spammers.
This plugin would surely encourage others to comment and participate in the topic discussion. When commenting, it’s also important to give insights. Avoid giving comments such as “Nice post” or “I like your post.” because they don’t contribute anything to the discussion and could also be considered as spamming.
